Eliza’s Big Beach Day

While in Cabo it is a necessity to do such touristy things as bargain for hats and tee shirts, drink margaritas and take the glass bottom boat trip to see Land’s End, El Arco and the sea lions. So yesterday our newcomers finished the trifecta with a glass bottom boat trip. Eliza was a real trooper in the boat wearing a very fetching Snoopy life preserver, and we got to see fish that looked like Dory from Finding Nemo, stinky sea lions, pelicans, and crazy-ass Americans drinking beer and tequila at 10 AM. And no, it wasn’t us. We waited until a respectable 11 AM. But I digress.

We parked at the main lot off of the marina, and were immediately approached by two guys wanting to know if we wanted to go fishing, glass bottom boat??? We went with the glass bottom boat guy who offered us the tour, and then to drop us at Medano Beach for as long as we wanted, picking us up at a prearranged time. Perfect. After the boat tour and some beautiful pictures we landed at the beach, arranged for chairs and an umbrella, and realized we’d forgotten Eliza’s beach pail and shovel. Uncle Steve talked to our liaison, Jose Miguel, who not only managed our chairs and umbrella, but was our cocktail waiter, lunch server, and beach pail procurer, and she soon after was off with a vengeance into the sand and surf. She made a friend from Salt Lake City named Maya, and the two of them buried Kevin’s feet in the sand, built castles (more like lumps, but OK), ran and played and laughed. And when our boat, Mr. Penguin II, came to get us she was one tired little girl. But after a mini power nap in the car (like a minute) while we hit a grocery store she caught her second wind and when we landed at the resort she was off again to the pool.  Who says there is no such think as renewable energy? Put this child on a treadmill and we could power New York City.

Steve and I ventured to one of Grand Solmar’s many restaurants just a short hop into town to get takeout for dinner. Romeo y Julieta is a nice Italian place where we got a couple of catch of the day dishes, a paparadelle with a veal ragu, a broccoli y rucola, and some salads, and had a nice glass of wine on their outdoor reception area while we waited. Once we got back Eliza was sound asleep, and no wonder; Jenifer and I both hit a wall about a half hour after our dinner. No sure how Eliza stayed up as long as she did! But she had to get some sleep because the Grand Solmar Kidz Club opens today at 11 and she’ll be there!
